Online Dating

A topic that I looked into that was related to our lecture was on how many people use some type of dating website/apps to for finding a relationship. I retrieved an article from the Pew Research center that had many statistics, and back ground information of online dating.   Since technology has advanced so much in the past 10 years, many people have started using these apps or websites on finding relationships. Since the beginning of the 21^st century there has been thousands of dating sites that have been created. It was recorded that 56% of Americans have used an online dating site or app to find a relationship. They said that people were using the dating sites for either meeting new people or for using it to find relationships.  It was said by the researchers said that 66% of the people who used the app actually went, and met the people who they matched with. What I found surprising from this article that I retrieved said that 30% of people who are currently in a relationship met each other by using an online dating website/app.  I was very shocked to see these high numbers of individuals because I didn’t think that many people used online dating sites to find relationships.  When reading into the article more though it included that many individuals say that they think you are in ways better off using dating sites on finding relationships. Some of the suggestions that they offered why it could be better is you are capable of picking the potential match by what you are looking for in someone. Some of these things you would be looking into someone for is gender, hobbies, sports, appearance, etc. By having these people an opportunity to find someone with what they are looking for in a relationship.  It can in some ways a lot more easier for them to find someone who they are looking for much faster than crossing them in public. Also another way that online websites can be beneficial is they can help establish a good relationship with the individual before meeting them. This can help by getting to know them before by having some type of background of the individual. Many people have responded by liking this way better than having to meet them in person. It also suggested that it can be a lot more safer to use online websites since how much they are monitored, and can be beneficial for safety  when meeting someone. This can help some people who are nervous at times getting to know someone in person, and having the a risk of being hurt.

By having technology advancing more every day I see more frequent use in online dating sites for people to find someone who they are trying to get into a relationship with. It has already shown a positive increase in it since the start of dating websites, and more people who will end up using them to establish a relationship.
