Friendship is an interpersonal relationship between two
people that is mutually productive with mutual positive regard. In the past, we had to meet face-to-face in order to make friends as well as maintain good relationship. Most of the people nowadays mostly don't have time to go join into the myriad of activities it takes to make new friends. It might sound depressing but there is other route you could take in order to make new friends, maintain the relationship and even find romantic relationship partners. We can make online friends. There are many advantages and disadvantages to online friendship. Some might say the shortcomings outweigh the strong points. However, many will be surprised to know that online friendships have much more advantages than face-to-face interaction
Here are the 6 reasons why online friends are the best from the article:
1. I can pick and choose the amazing people I want to keep in my life.2. I can talk to my friends ANYTIME I want.
3. I can hang out with them in my pajamas.
4. I can equally *not* hang out with them anytime I want and no one gets upset. 5. I can tell them ANYTHING. 6. It is a wide, wide world filled with wildly hilarious, deeply passionate and incredibly caring individuals.

I also personally think that online friendship are somewhat more convenient than face-to-face interaction. First of all, online friends have less reserve which means that I don't have to devote my time for my friends on busy days. Second, it is far easier to express yourself in emoticons than words. For last, you would don't really feel alone even though you are alone.
Also, when discussing about online friends, Hyper-personal communication model should be considered. Hyper-personal communication is a model of interpersonal communication that suggests computer mediated communication (CMC) can become hyper-personal because it "exceeds face-to-face interaction," thus affording message senders a host of communicative advantages over traditional face-to-face interaction. We also learned that we are more likely to like someone online than face-to-face. There are 4 factors of Hyper-personal outcome. 1) Sender 2) Receiver 3) Channel 4) Feedback loop. People use selective self presentation model to express things they are unable to say face-to-face. The receiver is more likely to believe the info presented by the sender. The channel--CMC allows for people to make rich interaction and it has a potential of creating a virtual community. People treat partners consistent with interpretations through feedback loop.
