In class we have talked about whether or not people like to communicate better with one another using online methods of communication or if they prefer using the face to face approach on connecting with other people. In the article that I retrieved from national communication website was about this connection on either using communication through technology or face to face, but was taking into play with students liking to use online courses or traditional classes on campus. I feel that this was a great article to choose from since how technology is rapidly growing, and many classes have been set for the use of online courses. In class we covered if individuals rather talk face to face rather to hold conversations than the use of online networks. So I wanted to dig into whether or not students in today’s college institutions benefit better from online classes or if the traditional campus courses are.

When I started reading the article it started off stating that online courses deliver, if not all of the class content through the internet but unlike on campus classes you are primarily bases on text interaction, and the learning environment is in an independent environment. Even though they have audio and video integrated into many online courses do these techniques sounds like a good idea but do they better than face to face interactions while learning in a class room environment?

Consider the fact that online courses are physically distance from the universities. This distance has been known to affect get some experiences and success while receiving all college degree.  Since online line students have that distance from campus; thus, these resources and interactions available for students through faculty or students may not be considered. With not having those connections it limits them by not using campus office resources. It can result in by the decrease of academic opportunities, and social integration, known to be predictors of student’s success for those who are taking traditional classes. Students who take online campuses miss out on-campus experiences with have connections with faculty and students that helps them get through their college career. In many cases without these factors they have seen many students less likely to advance in their college careers to receive a degree. In addition in many cases due to this lack of face to face communication it has led to many instances students feeling alienated, and isolated from others.

Some of the positives that see while using face-to-face classes, students have their classmates, learning centers on campus, professors' office hours, tutors, and teaching assistants to support and help them with their various learning needs. Having these resources to guide them through their courses help they gather material, and in most cases help them receive a better education. I’m not saying that all online courses are bad either, but most students have been shown to have better academic success while learning in a traditional class environment. Like I said it depends the student who is taking the classes but in recent studies fair out better while learning in the face to face atmosphere rather through technology devices.
